Guest Blog: Colleen Hall and Her Phantom Knight

Dear Readers, I apologize profusely! Somehow, Colleen's interview kept getting lost in cyberspace. We don't know what went wrong, but now it's right. Please enjoy learning about this sweet story.
Introduce yourself—name, where you’re from, and something people notice when they
meet you?

Hello! I’m Colleen Hall, and I’m originally from New Hampshire. I came all the way to South
Carolina to attend college. At the beginning of my sophomore year, I met a handsome
Southerner whom I married after we graduated. Southerners don’t move North—all that
snow!—so I’ve spent the rest of my life in South Carolina. According to my husband, what
he noticed first about me is that I’m friendly and easy to talk to, so I suppose that’s what
other people notice, too.
Tell us about your book—title and back cover blurb?
The title is Her Phantom Knight, and this is a time travel romance with a touch of fantasy
thrown in.
A STORYBOOK CHARACTER COMES TO LIFE
What is a romance author to do when the hero of her current Work in Progress, a fifteenth-

century English knight, comes to life and both are transported to his century?
A WOMAN OUT OF TIME
When Jenny Culver, romance author, and her storybook hero, Lord Hugh de Blaise, are
catapulted to fifteenth-century England, Jenny must navigate medieval society. She must protect her heart as she tries to discover the riddle of time travel while fending off the
pursuit of Hugh's archenemy, Sir Guye Fitzroy.
HONOR OR LOVE?
Lord Hugh's estate has been impoverished by the 100 Years' War. Circumstances make it
necessary for him to marry a wealthy bride, but Jenny has captured his heart. He must
decide if following his heart instead of marrying wealth compromises his family's honor.
And Jenny must decide if her future really lies in the twenty-first century, or if the fifteenth
century is her new future.
DANGER AND BETRAYAL
Subterfuge and betrayal envelope her in danger. A threat imperils her. Jenny must rely on
her wits and Hugh'

s promise to keep her safe, or she faces a future she never imagined.
Share one thing that you found difficult or challenging about writing this book?
Before I began writing Her Phantom Knight, I was stuck in writer’s burnout and didn’t know
it. I’d researched, outlined, and developed characters for two inspirational historical
romance novels, but when I sat down at the computer, I couldn’t write one word. I was
paralyzed. Then I read a blog by Janice Hardy on writer’s burnout, and that’s when I realized
that I fit the profile for writer’s burnout. Her remedy was to write something just for fun,
just for oneself outside of one’s usual genre. So I asked myself what would I write if I was
writing a book just for me and just for fun? Her Phantom Knight was created as a cure for
my burnout. I guess the most difficult thing about the book was overcoming the
burnout—nothing deeply philosophical—but once I got going, I had so much fun with this
one.
Ask the blog reader a quirky question or two?
Here’s a question probably no one has asked. Do you have a favorite romantic hero from a
book you’ve read and would love to meet him in real life? Say, Mr. Darcy from Pride and
Prejudice? John Thornton from North and South? Maybe it’s my quirky author’s
imagination, but ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to meet my storybook heroes in the
flesh. So when I wrote Her Phantom Knight, I gave Jenny that privilege. If it were possible,
what storybook hero would you love to meet?
