Guest Blog: Aubrey Taylor with Sani: The German Medic *Winner Gets Choice of Print or E-Book! **Winner: Elizabeth!

Updated: Sep 29

Dear Readers, I'm just as excited as you are to meet new-to-me authors! I'd not read anything of Aubrey's before but am now eager to pick up a book. Blessings to all of you, Christina

Introduce yourself and tell us a little about you?

Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to share on your blog. My name is Aubrey Taylor. I am from Upstate New York, closer to Lake Ontario than New York City. I’m not sure what people notice about me when they meet me, although I’ve been told more than once that I have a familiar face, as if people have met me before, even when there’s no way that’s possible.

Tell us about your book—title and back cover blurb?

Today I’m sharing about my 2021 debut novel, Sani: The German Medic. It is a German-perspective story of World War II, and the first book in my Gott Mit Uns series:

American-born Frederick Smith has left everything he has ever known to return to his German homeland. While he tries to remain uninvolved in the terror that surrounds him, his thirst for adventure and camaraderie draw him into the army of the Third Reich. Spurred by the friendship of the Battalion Chaplain and a newfound faith, Freddie begins to find a new meaning in the words Gott Mit Uns. But as the tide of the war turns, his closest comrades begin to fall. Will he live to serve Germany? Whether you love resistance fiction or war stories, you won’t want to miss this story from behind German lines. Buy it today or check it out in KU!

Share one thing that you found difficult or challenging about writing this book?

It has been over three years since I published Sani, and I’ve grown a lot as a writer since then.

Still, it’s amazing to me how many people have enjoyed the book, and I can only attribute that to the Lord, working through my weakness. Satan would love to discourage us and tell us all the things we did wrong (as if we need his help), and that continues to be a challenge for me: to move beyond that, and know that no matter where I am in my writing journey, God is at work in the process. When I’m tempted to discount my first book as a failure, I remember the One who inspired me to write it, and all the work and prayer I poured into it. I know that in the scheme of things, my weaknesses as a writer mean little in the light of His plan and purpose. That having been said, it spurs me to work harder to hone my craft and further my knowledge and understanding of history, because while He is present in our weakness, He has also called us to steward what He has given us, and not to neglect our calling. Whether it is my first book or my fiftieth (goals!), He called me to publish it for a reason. That’s why I’m promoting it today.

Ask the blog reader a quirky question or two?

How often do you seek out books written from a perspective different from the one you grew up with? Do you believe there is something to be learned by seeking out things that don’t fit the traditional narrative?

Share your social media and buy links!

Thank you for joining us on the blog, Aubrey, and best wishes for your writing!

Thanks for taking the time to comment, Priscilla. It will be interesting to read them in reverse order, though they can certainly be read in that way!

This sounds so interesting! I am trying to get better at this about reading viewpoints different than mine. As a former journalist, I just love hearing people's stories!

Yes, I do believe that we can learn from another perspective than we believe. I have read a few books that I would not have picked up on my own if they had not been a bookclub pick. Thank you so much for sharing. God bless you. Debra Pruss

Debra, I'm so glad we figured out the commenting problem from last week! And I agree--my church book club in particular has stretched my interests and I'm better for it. Blessings, Christina
