Dear Readers,

I hope this blog post finds you well. I'm writing this at my desk and hopping up ever so often to give out candy to Trick or Treaters. I love seeing the little ones in costume! Now, it's time for Christmas books!

I know the guest author wants to share a sweet story with us...let's see!

Introduce yourself—name, where you’re from, and something people notice when they meet you.

Erma Ullrey (named after my paternal grandmother and aunt).

Originally from New Jersey, my parents moved to California when I was 19. I met my husband in a psychology class at California State University, Sacramento. After living in CA for 35 years, we moved to Virginia, then lived in Oregon for ten years. We’ve lived in Idaho for the past eight years. Unless the Lord says otherwise, this is our last home on Planet Earth.

Tell us about your book—title and back cover blurb?

Sadie’s Gift: The Christmas Cabin has been in my heart and mind for a few years now. Since I believe Jesus is the best gift ever and the reason we give gifts at Christmastime, I wanted to write a story that reflected that. The first 3 chapters have won several awards, for which I’m grateful.

In the snowy embrace of McCall, Idaho, SADIE’S GIFT: The Christmas Cabin weaves a tale of an unexpected reunion and slow-to-thaw hearts. Grief-stricken Brooke Radcliffe and frustrated author Jack Chance are brought together by fate in Aunt Sadie’s cabin. An early blizzard forces the former childhood friends to confront their differences and work together to survive. Can Brooke and Jack set aside their painful pasts and let love melt their frozen hearts? Discover a story of healing, resilience, and the transformative power of forgiveness in this heartwarming tale of love in the unlikeliest of places.

Share one thing that you found difficult or challenging about writing this book?

Brooke and Jack have trust and loss in common, which they handle in unhealthy ways. But then, the possibility of starving to death during Snowmageddon melts their walls and opens them to love.

At first, these two characters kept everything barricaded inside so that I had difficulty understanding their fears, frustrations, and pain. After several honest conversations, and a few harrowing situations, they slowly opened their hearts, surrendered their lives to the Lord, and their healing began.

As an author, I’ve never felt like an outsider to my characters. Not so with Brooke and Jack. They challenged every bit of happiness I wanted to infuse in them. Ah, but once we learned to communicate? Christmas magic!… I wonder if that’s how the Lord sees me sometimes. If I’d just yield to Him, I could have the joy He’s so willing to give me!

Ask the blog reader a quirky question or two?

I wonder if you’ve ever been snowed in for Christmas or, like Brooke and Jack, feared a blizzard would never end?

As little girl in New Jersey, I remember several blizzards. My dad was a milkman then, and I remember praying many times that he’d come home safely. One of my favorite memories of Christmas is waking up just before dawn to freshly fallen snow, and making snow angels and snowmen with neighborhood friends and drinking hot chocolate with them.

I remember white Christmas' but I do not remember being snowed in for one. I was alive for the Blizzard of '78. It was a chllenging time as my Dad had surgery. They took my Dad and Mom by 4 wheeler to the hospital. I stayed home alone. My Uncle and Aunt lived in the next block. We had good friends down the alley. I did not want to leave our dog. We ended up losing electricitity and heat. When the electric came back on, my Uncle came over and lite the pilot lights. Your book sounds fabulous. God bless you.

Thank you for sharing, Debra! I do remember getting snowed in, but not for long--we lived on a farm and Daddy would plow our own roads. :)
