Guest Blog: Karen Ferguson Prize to Selected Commenter: Signed Copy of Book

Welcome, Karen! This is a rarity for me--a children's book. But I love the idea of sharing God's love with little ones (I've taught every age of Sunday School possible) so here we go...

Hello y’all! My name is Karen Ferguson, originally from the Pacific NW, now a transplant in Murfreesboro Tennessee…and loving it! :-) I suppose people notice that I am friendly and love to smile.

Tell us about your book—title and back cover blurb.

Guess How Much God Loves You is the story of seven-year-old Lucy Lu, a colorful, creatively curious first-grader, who is starting to have serious questions about God. How old is He? Does He sleep? What does He do all day? And the biggest one of all - does God really love me? After one particularly hard day of being bullied by her classmates at school, Lucy feels like she doesn’t matter. She sits with Papa Joe, who has promised to answer her questions about God, launching them onto a journey to discover God's never-changing, never-failing, never-ending love. What follows is a wild adventure through the Bible, where Lucy and her papa find themselves in the middle of each page of the exciting story of God's love and faithfulness for all people throughout all of history. This first book in the 6 part series is all about God’s Creation

Share one thing that you found difficult or challenging about writing this book.

Building the characters and their backstory. Being a picture book, I could only use so many words, and I wanted this book to be more than a regurgitation of the Creation account. I wanted to introduce the reader to this new, colorful main character, Lucy Lu; and I wanted to provide a snippet of her backstory that readers could relate to, and that would explain why this topic of God’s love was so important for her.

Ask the blog reader a quirky question or two. I want to encourage comments and engagement.

I’d love to hear about your favorite and least favorite place you stayed on vacation.

My least favorite was a condo on the Island of Oahu. While the Island was amazing, the condo was infested with cockroaches. They were everywhere! In our shower, on our couch, in our bed, and even in my mom’s Rice Krispies cereal box My sister and I stayed up all night because we were so creeped out (we ended up walking to a nearby resort at 3am, which was kind of fun… :-), and we begged our parents to find another place in the morning. Thankfully they did and we enjoyed the rest of our trip!

My favorite place? More recently it’s become the Opryland Resort in Nashville. It’s difficult to describe but there is a feeling when you visit this luxury resort that is hard to match. With more than 9 acres of indoor garden atriums, live music, good food, tons of things to do, and just 40 minutes from home, it’s become our favorite place to visit.
