Dear Readers, I hope you are getting to swim in the ocean, eat watermelon, and rest! Please join me in welcoming a debut novelist--how exciting!

Introduce yourself—name, where you’re from, and something people notice when they meet you.

I’m Megan Short, and I live in Australia. Something people notice when they first meet me is I’m usually too early. I’ve had it drilled into me since a child that being late is rude, and I am not great with directions, so I always allow “getting lost time”, and tend to arrive way early. (Don’t worry, I wait in the car, it’s also rude to be too early, LOL).

Tell us about your book—title and back cover blurb.

“Alaskan Police Protector” is my debut novel.

Backcover blurb:

To save a child, he has to risk his own life. When a minivan slides off the road into an icy lake, Officer Samuel Miller narrowly rescues a woman and child from certain death. Only, Rachel Harding insists the crash is no accident—it’s eerily similar to how her sister and brother-in-law recently died. As the unexplained attacks escalate, Samuel is determined to protect Rachel and her orphaned niece at all costs. But when they make a shocking discovery, their investigation becomes even more dangerous, and survival may be impossible. From Love Inspired Suspense: Courage. Danger. Faith.

Share one thing that you found difficult or challenging about writing this book.

The biggest challenge in this book was my hero, Samuel’s faith journey. He needed to let go of his guilt, but I wasn’t sure what would cause him to surrender it to God. Thankfully my pastor gave a sermon on John 6:37 that I knew would’ve resonated with Samuel. It is a good verse to keep close to your heart: “All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.”

Ask the blog reader a quirky question or two?

Quirky question: A big theme in Alaskan Police Protector is family, in particular, secrets and conflict. I’m always interested to hear about other families, so my question is: What is the most outrageous family secret (doesn’t have to be yours!) that you’ve been privy to? Or, if that’s too personal, what is the most hilarious (in hindsight!) conflict you’ve had with a sibling?

Every outrageous secret I know of those close to me involves parentage (ranging from secret adoptions to illegitimate half-siblings), but the standout has to be my mom’s friend who learned much later in life that she wasn’t actually 100% German, but 50% French. Her family had lied to her about her parentage—her father had been a French soldier, killed in WW2, but she didn’t find out until her birth mom (the woman she’d always thought was her aunt) confessed on her deathbed! You can imagine her shock, and the subsequent genealogical and emotional journey. I hope she will write about it one day.
