Virtue Blog Post: Peace

Dear Readers,

Thank you so much for being with me on this journey of exploring virtues from both a Christian and psychological viewpoint. I also hope I’ve made these things applicable to our own lives (don’t worry, I’m not done, just reflecting).

I chose Peace this time because I am struggling with that concept. How about you? Are you, perhaps, going through a difficult time? Or maybe it’s not just a season, but something that’s not going away any time soon?

How do we find peace when something is wrong and doesn’t look like it’s going to be right?

Where is God then?

Psalm 103:1: Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise His holy name.”

That verse was in a card a friend sent me…I literally got up from my chair to get a drink of water and found that this card arrived in the mail.

I know one of my biggest sins is worrying about things that belong to God. Oh, what is that you say? That everything belongs to God. Yep. I worry about those, too.

So, how to find peace amongst all the wrong and the worrying and well, just the world?

#1 Give it to God. Sometimes, I picture taking the “thing” that is bothering me and

turning to the side, handing it off to waiting hands, and then turning back to whatever is in front of me.

#2 Do what you can do. This is from the psychology side of things. If we have a

feeling of control in some way, we can handle other things better. For me, just planning ahead...helps.

#3 Gratitude. Be grateful for what you do have. Make a list and tell God, "thank you!'

#4 Be Content. You probably have enough food to eat, maybe a friend or two,

and/or a family member who loves you. How blessed we are!

#5 Get away. Really, go outside, walk to a corner in your yard, take a camping chair

and sit by the lake—go somewhere it’s just you and God. Stay put and put your

phone away. Breathe and enjoy!

Peace be with you.

Philippians 4:7:  “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Please know I am always praying for you...have a blessed day, Christina

Praying for you, Christina. It seems we are both going through difficult times with our aging mothers. God has them in His capable hands. And us too! Peace be with you! 🩷

Thank you so much. In this world, there is so much that grabs at our peace. I am with you that I picture handing it off to the Lord. God bless you.
