Dear Readers, I do love these old-fashioned recipes, even though I've never played Bridge. My sisters and I, though, we can play a mean game of Spades. What kinds of games do you play with family and friends? Do you snack while doing so? Please share below!

By the way, this is an interesting, unusual combination of flavors--yum! Happy end of May!

Bridge Party Coffee Cake

1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened

2 1/4 cups, sugar, divided

2 eggs

1 cup dairy sour cream

1 teaspoon freshly grated lemon peel

1 teaspoon lemon juice

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup chopped nuts (I used walnuts)

1/2 cup shredded coconut

1/4 Hershey's cocoa

1 teaspoon cinnamon

2 tablespoons butter melted

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Grease and flour 12-cup fluted tube pan or 10-inch tube pan.

  3. In large mixer bowl, beat 1 cup butter, 2 cups sugar, and eggs until light and fluffy. Add sour cream, lemon peel and juice; beat well.

  4. Stir together flour, baking powder and salt; add to butter mixture, beating well.

  5. In small bowl, stir together nuts, coconut, cocoa, remaining 1/4 cup sugar, and cinnamon; stir in melted butter.

  6. Spoon half of batter into prepared pan. Sprinkle half of nut mixture over batter. Top with remaining batter. Sprinkle remaining nut mixture over top.

  7. Bake 1 hour ad 5 to 10 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in the middle comes out clean.

  8. Cool 10 minutes (I wait until the pan is cool to the touch); remove from pan to serving plate.

  9. Sprinkle with powdered sugar over top, if desired.

  10. Yield: 12 to 14 servings.

Note: This recipe comes from the Hershey's 1034 Cookbook, reprinted in 1992.

That looks delicious! We enjoy board games, but I haven't played any in a while. I try not to snack... key word "try" 🤭
