Fallen Coins (A whimsical tale on the blessings of obedience)

Introduce yourself—name, where you’re from, and something people notice when they meet you.

Hi! I’m so blessed to be a guest author on Christina’s Corner again. Thank you for having me Christina! My name is Ashley Thompson, and I was born on the tropical island of Nassau, Bahamas, but I spent most of my childhood days living in a quaint beach town in California. One of the first things people notice about me is my big smile and hazel eyes.
Tell us about your book—title and back cover blurb.
Fallen Coins reads like a classical children’s tale with a whimsical mood. The story effortlessly teaches children about how God blesses them when they obey their parents. (I recorded a free audiobook version on my website).
Blurb:
Four identical copper coins… four vastly different siblings… one task.
Aline is finally given the chance she’s been looking for to take a trip down her mountain house into the quaint village of Chestnut. Her mother tasks her with the great responsibility of making a nonstop journey into town to purchase items for a delicious supper while keeping an eye on her younger siblings.
The journey is filled with delightful distractions, forested woods, and flowering mountains that easily catch the children’s attention.
Will Aline be able to resist the urge to disobey her mother and take a few fun detours? Will she be able to keep her playfully mischievous siblings in line and safely keep the coins?
Join these siblings on a whimsical journey of fun, competition, and games while they learn the beautiful truth that obedience brings good things. Ephesians 6:1-2

Chapter 3 Adventure Awaits
The beautiful, lush green hills were covered with multicolored flowers. Wild geraniums, blu-ets, Queen Anne’s Laces, asters, buttercups, and coneflowers were everywhere the children turned. Sometimes patches of them grouped to-gether—with lavender, pink, red, orange, white, and yellow—especially caught their attention.
Abel and Joseph began to frolic down the first hill, skipping, leaping, and spinning around each other.
Aline followed behind with Pome holding her hand as they followed a bit more slowly.
Pome pulled Aline to a stop after a few minutes, her eyes fixed on a patch of lavender flowers.
“I want to pick some,” she stated.
“Pome, we haven’t the time,” Aline replied, tugging lightly on her sister’s hand to encourage her to keep going, but Pome dug in her heels, staying still as a rock.
“Please?” Pome begged, pouting up at Aline. Her dark, swirling eyes appeared bigger and glassier as she beseeched her big sister.
“I’m sorry, Pome,” Aline stated sincerely, “but I don’t think we should.” She hated telling her little sister no, so she looked away from her puppy-dog face, which had a weakening effect on her resolve to be responsible.
“But it’s for a good reason. I want to make a bracelet for mama with them later,” Pome whined.
Discussion Questions:
1. What is one of your favorite childhood family traditions?
My family and I would take a three-day road trip from California to Florida almost every year. I loved spending time with my three siblings and my parents as we toured parts of the country on our way to Florida (where we would catch a flight to the Bahamas). We stopped by many landmarks, camped out, played games, and created priceless memories that I still cherish today.
2. Name one way that disobedience cost you as a child.
One time, my family and I were walking down the street in a new town. The sidewalk was busy, and cars were bustling by. Bored, my little brother and I began to play tag. He would chase me, and I would run ahead of my family to escape. My father told us to stop several times, and we would pause for a moment, but then pick up our game again (completely ignoring his instructions). As I ran, I looked over my shoulder, laughing, to see how close my brother was to me. By the time I turned around, it was too late to stop. I ran straight into a pole. The impact of that collision was so hard that it knocked a perfectly rooted tooth out of my mouth. Sure enough, I cried and ran straight to my dad for comfort.
