Dear Readers,

Thank you, again, for being a reader of this blog! I appreciate each and every one of you--and hope you are doing well. I'll admit I've had a rough week--I'm going to need dental surgery and my son needs a job. Prayers, please? And thank you. Please let me know if you have any prayer requests below.

Now, to my guest author, Sarah Hanks. She's known for writing stories and hosting the Brave Authors blog. Blessings, Christina

Introduce yourself—name, where you’re from, and something people notice when they meet you.

Hi, Sarah Hanks here. I’ve lived in Missouri all my life, mostly around the St. Louis area. One thing people notice about me might be my array of bright yellow clothing. I don’t wear yellow every day, but I have quite a few yellow outfits because I love the color so much. Hard not to notice that!

Tell us about your book—title and back cover blurb.

Braving Red Waters is the 3rd book in the Time Sailors series. This is a fun, time-travel series with rich historical details and a thick faith thread. You can read this one on its own, but you’ll enjoy it more if you read the series in order. (Currently book 2, Braving Fiery Waters, is not on Amazon. However, you can get it just about anywhere else, and the audiobook is on Audible, among most other retailers.)

Here’s the blurb:

Phoebe Bristow has spent a decade guarding her heart after her father walked out and shattered her family. When she touches a mysterious antique mailbox aboard a whale-watching cruise in Baja California and wakes up in Civil War St. Louis, she must learn to trust again, first the quick-witted man who greets her on shore, then the God who placed her there for reasons she cannot yet understand. Back on the cruise, her mother Erica clings to the mailbox as the only thread connecting her to her missing daughter, while a thoughtful marine biologist, Rodney Duncan, steadily dismantles the walls around her wounded heart. Together and apart, mother and daughter discover that the courage to love again may be the most dangerous mission of all.

Share one thing that you found difficult or challenging about writing this book.

I love traveling to research for my books, and I try to do so as much as possible. However, the present-day part of Braving Red Waters takes place on a whale-watching cruise in Baja, Mexico, and I wasn’t able to go there for research. That meant extensive online and book research. I believe it worked out beautifully, but man, I wish I could have taken the same cruise my character Erica did.

I did have the pleasure of visiting a blue whale exhibit at my local science center.  So interesting! On another note, the historical portion of the book takes place on the USS Red Rover, the first Navy hospital ship of the Civil War. I recently found out that a relative of mine owned and operated the Red Rover before it was commissioned for the war. I feel like this story is in my blood.

Ask the blog reader a quirky question or two?

What is your favorite marine animal?

Though my character, Erica, loves blue whales, I’d have to say I like dolphins the best. We recently went on a dolphin cruise (something I’d wanted to do for a long time) and it was so fun to see them jump up to greet us. What fun creatures.

Thank you, Sarah, for being a guest! I love that historical coincidence. :)

Yellow is a pretty color, but one I cannot wear. I love dolphins and I would see them all the time when I lived near the ocean in my younger days.
